Elevating Outcomes with Feedback led Product Roadmaps

Product Toolkit talk (15 mins)

Outcome and Goal focused Product Roadmaps as a game changer to elevate from traditional delivery plans

Whilst working with the University of Surrey, Simon was asked to assess the global Product Roadmap marketplace, and to propose a solution that would significantly elevate the way in which roadmaps were consumed and influenced by stakeholders across the organisation.

Some trials were underway, and whilst ‘nice on the eye’, there was little to address the objective of creating greater transparency and benefits.

Once such objective was to encourage end users to vote for initiatives, and as a result, Simon located and recommended a solution (no names here!) to not only meet this objective, to also create many more opportunities to elevate the approach to Roadmapping.

In the end, a solution was selected for proof of concept, capable of delivering:

1. Enhanced user experience through its feature and capability set
2. Increased accessibility and transparency for stakeholders
3, Opportunity for Student & Stakeholders to vote on features
4. Allow new ideas to be submitted and worked into the roadmap
5. Influence roadmap prioritisation based upon voting and ideas
6. Directly link to JIRA or ADO for real time Delivery visibility
7. Pivot from a Delivery Plans to outcome based Product Roadmaps

Testimonial: Darren Plunkett | LinkedIn

I worked with Simon at the University of Surrey where he was engaged as a Product Management Consultant. His knowledge, experience and passion for product is infectious and played a pivotal role in a supporting & challenging ongoing organisational transformation.

Simon engages with many different audiences, exchanging ideas with senior executives but also getting down in the detail with product and development teams.

Simon's pragmatic and selfless approach means he relates to people and people relate to him, no matter their background and experience. At Surrey this created an environment where knowledge transfer and personal growth for those involved happened at pace. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Simon as a Product Leader, Mentor....or any role product related for that matter!!
